Celebrating the life of

Herman O. Meyers

April 09, 1946 - August 09, 2006

Herman O. Meyers

On August 7, 2006, our beloved Hermie, age 60, left this earth to forever be our guardian angel. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Herman, a native of Savannah and lifelong resident was the son of Mary Paxton Meyers and the late Henry Von Glahn Meyers.
He was employed by Union Camp/International Paper for thirty-seven years as an electrical mechanic in the industrial truck shop before retiring in 2001. While at the same time he had a passion for repairing golf cars, he was chosen to become a Club Car dealer of the Southeast Region where he owned and operated Southern Golf Car, Inc. for seventeen years.
Our beloved Hermie, Dad, and Papa was always on call 24/7, whether it was for a golf car matter that couldn’t wait til Monday, or the middle of the night calls from his family, it was Herman you could count on to be right there to “fix it”. If he couldn’t “fix it” it was broken!
It was his sweet gentle soul and love for people that makes it an incredible honor to have known this wonderful gift of God.
His greatest joy in life was his family and friends. Whether it was spending lazy days on the dock watching kids play in the river, or a special ceremony, it brought that all too familiar smile to his face that was known to all who knew him.
Herman was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1391, the Union Camp Hazardous Material Team, a former president and coach for many years of the Southside Raiders Organization and was an active daily member of the “Omelette House Breakfast Club.”
Herman is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Sandra Arnold Meyers; two sons and daughters-in-law, Herman Kevin and Brenda Meyers and Rodney Trent and Joanna Meyers, both of Savannah; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Michelle Meyers and Glen Smeltzer, of Savannah; his mother, Mary Meyers of Savannah; a brother, Henry Von Glahn Meyers of Tybee Island; eight grandchildren, Katheryn, Christopher, Matthew, Mary Grace, Ashley, and Hayley Meyers, Bryson and Tynley Smeltzer, all of Savannah; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, 412 Parkersburg Rd., Savannah, GA with Rev. Joseph Smith and Dr. Frank Parr officiating.
Burial will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family suggests that remembrances be made to The Bethesda Home for Boys, 9520 Ferguson Ave., Savannah, GA 31406.
